Empowerment & Skill-Building Focused
Sunday, June 7, 2026
Mahila Suraksha Samiti, HISAR, HARYANA, INDIA.
First conceptualized by Mahila Suraksha Samiti in 2012, this visionary project remains closer to our hearts than ever. Realizing that the isolation of our elders and the erosion of Haryana's oral culture have only intensified over the last decade, we are re-submitting this vital proposal for approval. Updated for today's context, this blueprint outlines our renewed commitment to bridging elder care with heritage preservation.
Project Proposal: Adult / Senior Citizen Day Care cum Culture Preservation Centre
Date of Proposal: October 20, 2012
Project Duration: 3 Years
Implementing Agency: Mahila Suraksha Samiti (Regd No: 1581), Hisar, Haryana
President: Dr. Kaushlya Malhotra
Address: 1008, HBC, Sector 15 A, Hisar, Haryana
1. Brief Introduction of the Project
In today's fast-paced world, many working couples face the difficult challenge of leaving their elderly parents at home alone. This often leads to deep apprehension and anxiety, making it hard for professionals to fully concentrate on their work.
To address this pressing social need, Mahila Suraksha Samiti is introducing a dedicated Senior Citizen Day Care Centre. Families where both husband and wife go to work can comfortably drop their elders off in the morning and take them back home in the evening.
At our centre, seniors will be provided with:
Nutritious food and regular dietary care.
Professional medical care and health monitoring.
Recreational activities, interactive hobbies, and indoor fun games.
A warm, respectful environment where their life experiences are deeply valued.
Preserving Haryana's Rich Oral Heritage
Haryanvi society participates in a remarkably rich cultural heritage. However, the vast majority of this knowledge remains unwritten. It is preserved entirely through oral traditions—the tales families pass down, stories of bygone eras, traditional ecological knowledge, and historical community events.
This folklore gives shape and character to the lives of the people of Haryana. While future generations have much to learn from the wisdom of their elders, this knowledge risks being lost forever if it is not documented. Our centre will uniquely harness the talents of senior citizens to document and preserve this invaluable cultural heritage for posterity.
2. Aims and Objectives
The project operates with a distinct two-fold vision:
Enhancing Quality of Life: To provide a profound sense of dignity, self-respect, self-dependence, and confidence to senior citizens within the project area, ensuring they lead an active and fulfilling life.
Cultural Preservation: To engage the wisdom and talents of these senior citizens to actively research, document, and preserve the folk traditions and oral history of Haryana.
3. Documenting Community Traditions
The documentation activities will be carried out year-round at the primary centre and approximately 5 to 7 times a year through organized field visits to nearby rural areas. The documentation will cover:
Verbal Arts: Folk tales, humorous stories, oral biographies, traditional riddles, jokes, proverbs, sayings, rhymes, family oral histories, and occupational work stories.
Music & Dance: Ethnic folksongs, traditional lullabies, religious hymns, social dances, ritualistic performances, and ethnic dances.
Games & Play: Traditional ritual games and historical children's games.
Foodways: Heritage recipes, traditional food preparation techniques, ancient cooking technologies, and the religious or medicinal uses of local food.
Folk Art & Craft: Traditional quilting, weaving, embroidery, knitting, sewing, and crocheting.
Celebrations & Rites of Passage: Detailed rituals of birth, initiations, marriage, and death, as well as seasonal festivals and local cultural fairs.
