In these days, when it is considered quite a modern move ment to interest children in rural and suburban schools in gardening, it is well to remember that nearly ninety years ago the pupils at this school for clergymen's daughters were encouraged to keep a small plot of garden in good order, so that they might be interested in such work, and have their powers of observation improved.

Abbreviations:TC = Triple Crochet
HDC = Half Double Crochet
SC = Single Crochet
SL ST = Slip Stitch
EA = Each
Ch = Chain

Chain 3, join.
Round 1: CH1, 6 SC in ch 3 loop, join.
Round 2: Ch 1, 2 SC in ea SC around for a total of 6 times. (12 SC)

Round 3: *CH 1, in the next SC do, 3TC, CH Picot in the top of TC, SL ST in the top of TC, 2 TC, CH 1, SL ST in next SC. Repeat from * 3 times total. 1 SC in next st, 2 HDC in next st, (the stem will be worked in the top of the this HDC) CH 5, turn, 1 ST ST in ea chain, 1 HDC, 1 SC in last ST, join. Secure yarn. Cut, sew in tail or leave a length for using as an applique.
